Thai, deep tissue, Swedish or hot stone: which one do you actually need?

At Thai Spa, seven full-body massages cost exactly the same: Rs 3,500 for 30 minutes, Rs 4,000 for 40, Rs 5,500 for 60 and Rs 8,000 for 90. That is good news, because you never have to pick the cheaper one. It also means price cannot help you choose. This guide does the choosing for you, by matching each massage to what your body is actually telling you.

Start with one question

Ask yourself: do I feel sore, stiff, wound up, or just tired? The answer points you to the right style faster than any menu description.

  • Sore, with knots in the same places: Deep Tissue
  • Stiff and locked up, especially hips and hamstrings: Thai
  • Wound up, stressed, first time: Swedish
  • Wound up and struggling to sleep: Aromatherapy
  • Cold, tight, slow to loosen: Hot Stone
  • Sore from training: Sports
  • Honestly not sure: Full Body Massage

The seven massages, one by one

Thai Massage: for stiffness

Thai Massage is done on a mat, with you fully clothed in loose cotton wear that we provide. The therapist uses pressure along the muscle lines and moves your legs and arms into gentle stretches. It feels closer to guided stretching than to a rub-down. Choose it if your hips are locked from sitting, your hamstrings are short, and you feel stiff rather than sore. There is no oil, so it also suits anyone who dislikes it.

Deep Tissue Massage: for knots that keep coming back

Deep Tissue Massage uses slow, firm pressure on one area at a time. It is the right choice if you have a stubborn knot beside the shoulder blade, a tight band across the shoulders from desk work, or sore muscles after the gym. It is firmer, and mild soreness for a day afterwards is normal. If you do not like firm pressure, choose one of the gentler styles.

Swedish Relaxing Massage: the classic

Swedish Relaxing Massage uses long, flowing strokes with warm oil at a light to medium pressure. It is the easiest choice if you have never had a massage, and it is just as good if you simply want an hour where nothing is asked of you. You can ask for more pressure on the shoulders or less anywhere at all.

Aromatherapy Massage: for stress and poor sleep

Aromatherapy Massage pairs a slow, gentle massage with essential oils chosen for how they smell: lavender for calm, citrus for lift. It is meant to bring you down a level. Choose it when stress shows up in the body, with tension headaches, pulled-up shoulders or restless nights. Tell us if you are sensitive to strong scents and we will use a milder blend.

Hot Stone Massage: for warmth and slow release

Hot Stone Massage uses warm basalt stones, laid on the back and used with the therapist's hands. The heat softens stiff muscles so that pressure can go deeper without feeling harsh. It is a favourite in colder months. It is not suited to people with reduced skin sensation or sensitivity to heat.

Sports Massage: for training recovery

Sports Massage targets the muscles you actually use: quads, hamstrings, calves, glutes and shoulders. It mixes firm compressions with stretching. Choose it after a heavy week of training, or a few days before an event when you want your legs to feel loose rather than tight.

Full Body Massage: the default

The Full Body Massage is our standard oil massage, at a medium pressure. If you cannot decide, book this one. It is relaxing enough to switch off and firm enough to loosen tight areas. It is the all-rounder.

If you only have thirty minutes

You do not have to book a full-body massage at all. Our targeted treatments are shorter and cheaper, and they focus on the area that bothers you. The Back & Neck Massage, Foot Massage and Head & Shoulder Massage each start at thirty minutes. The shortest start at Rs 2,500. They make an easy first visit.

Matching massage to common situations

  • First massage ever: Swedish Relaxing Massage
  • Desk job, sore shoulders: Head & Shoulder, or Deep Tissue
  • Long drive, stiff back: Back & Neck
  • On your feet all day: Foot Massage
  • Gym or sports soreness: Sports, or Deep Tissue
  • Stressed and sleeping badly: Aromatherapy
  • Stiff hips from sitting: Thai
  • Cold weather, tight everywhere: Hot Stone
  • No idea: Full Body Massage

What about pressure?

Pressure is separate from style. Any massage can be lighter or firmer, and you control it. As a rough guide: Swedish and Aromatherapy are the gentlest, Full Body and Hot Stone sit in the middle, and Deep Tissue and Sports are the firmest. Thai massage is firm in a different way, using pressure with stretching rather than strong sliding strokes.

Who should check with a doctor first

Whichever style you choose, please talk to your doctor before booking if any of these apply:

  • You are pregnant
  • You have had a fracture or surgery recently
  • You have a fever or infection
  • Your blood pressure is not under control
  • A doctor is already treating the problem you want massaged

Can you switch styles between visits?

Absolutely, and many people do. There is no loyalty to a style. You might book a Swedish massage when you want to switch off, then Deep Tissue when a knot is bothering you, and Thai when your hips feel locked. Think of the styles as different tools for different problems rather than a choice you make once.

Whatever you book, tell the therapist how your last session felt: too light, too firm, just right. That feedback does more to improve your next massage than any menu description.

Still undecided?

Here is the short version. Sore and knotty: Deep Tissue. Stiff and tight: Thai. Stressed, first time or general tension: Swedish. Struggling with sleep: Aromatherapy. Cold and slow to loosen: Hot Stone. Training: Sports. Unsure: Full Body. And because they all cost the same, you can see the rates on the prices page and simply pick the one that sounds right. Message us on WhatsApp with where it hurts, and we will recommend one.

Book the Full Body Massage if you are unsure

Full Body Massage: the standard oil massage — the default if you're unsure. From Rs 3,500 for 30 minutes.
